Abstract:

This article deals with the crime and punishment system in the mid-18th century. The author focused in particular on murders, as they pose a diverse category that perfectly reflect the functioning of English criminal law during the given period. Simultaneously, the article will show a general overview of the criminal life of London in the modern era based on detailed testimony of witnesses facing the Old Bailey court.
