Abstract:

The aim of the dissertation Sienkiewicz museums as places of remembrance is to define the role of Sienkiewicz museums in commemorating the writer, to present the development of museum collections from their inception to the present day, and to discuss their socio–cultural function. The period of one hundred years limited by two important events – the writer's death in 1916, as it was then that a new stage of his commemoration began, and the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of this event in 2016, which was declared the Year of Henryk Sienkiewicz – was adopted as the timeline for the issues covered in the study. The work is arranged in a problem–chronological order and consists of a list of abbreviations, an introduction, five chapters, a conclusion, a list of events, and a bibliography. The activities of the three Sienkiewicz museums are presented in a comprehensive form for the first time. Such an approach made it possible to outline the entire output of these institutions and the variety of activities they conducted. The data contained in this work constitute valuable comparative material, which, when analysed, made it possible to indicate both common features and distinctive elements of individual institutions.
Celem dysertacji Muzea Sienkiewiczowskie jako miejsca pamięci jest określenie roli muzeów sienkiewiczowskich w upamiętnianiu pisarza, prezentacja rozwoju kolekcji muzealnych od ich powstania do czasów współczesnych oraz omówienie ich społeczno-kulturowej funkcji. Jako cezurę czasową zagadnień ujętych w opracowaniu przyjęto okres 100 lat ograniczony dwoma istotnymi wydarzeniami – śmiercią pisarza w 1916 roku, gdyż wtedy zaczął się nowy etap jego upamiętniania, oraz obchodami 100. rocznicy tego wydarzenia w 2016 roku, który został ogłoszony Rokiem Sienkiewiczowskim. Praca w układzie problemowo-chronologicznym składa się z wykazu skrótów, wstępu, pięciu rozdziałów, zakończenia, wykazu wydarzeń oraz bibliografii. Po raz pierwszy działalność trzech muzeów sienkiewiczowskich została przedstawiona w formie kompleksowej. Takie ujęcie pozwoliło na zaprezentowanie całego dorobku tych instytucji i różnorodności zrealizowanych w nich działań. Zawarte w pracy dane stanowią cenny materiał porównawczy, który poddany analizie pozwolił na wskazanie cech wspólnych, jak i elementów wyróżniających poszczególne placówki.
