Title: Experience – Awakening – Transformation. The Art of (Self-)Improvement of Hermeneutic Competences

Abstract:

Two theses laid the grounds for the monograph on the art and capability of (self-)improvement of hermeneutic competences. Firstly, the thesis saying that pedagogy takes its origin “from within culture” and has “its own room” there, thus, one cannot limit pedagogical contents only to occupational ones, but must create their broader socio-cultural background, use tradition and references to various symbols and texts of culture. Secondly, the task of education is to search for possibilities to wake up a human being and revitalise their hidden potentials, not in a narrow sense, but awakening as “discovering the path to oneself”, to one’s destiny and vocation – and experiencing thresholds (and) levels or degrees of maturity. These three existential dynamisms of man, namely experience – awakening – transformation, are the pillars of the publication (which also possesses the advantages of a coursebook, with guidelines, advice and practical part) addressed to people who are preparing for social professions. Therefore, the book is specifically addressed to students of pedagogy and social work, especially foreign ones, its recipients also include university teachers. In the course of studies attention is mainly paid to social competences and these, in our opinion, must be supplemented with hermeneutic competences. Moreover, the catalogue/range of competences of representatives of social professions is so broad and rich that it is really worth familiarising with it to improve one's strengths and overcome weaknesses, and thus acquire appropriate qualifications and professional competences – pedagogical ones or those of a social worker.
