Abstract:

Quantitative linguistic indicators are expressed by numbers that show the relationship of one linguistic element to others. Contrary to appearances, they are not only a component of quantitative description because the number of linguistic forms and structures used in the text, against the background of the frequency of other elements, has clear qualitative consequences. The quantitative indicators analysed here are universal. They allow one to study and compare different ethnic languages, the functional styles of these languages, specific texts, and sometimes even forms of expression within texts. The first chapter is about the characterisation of the research material. These are mainly reportages from the years 2004-2019 distinguished with the Beata Pawlak Award and artistic prose of the interwar (?) period. They are investigated against the comparative background of different types of texts. The next chapters concern the role of choice in linguistic text creation, the quantitative vocabulary richness index, the vocabulary repetition index, the nominality index, the epithetisation index, the verbal expression index, the index of the relationship between the structural and linear development of a sentence, and the inflectional variance index. The publication ends with a conclusion, an annex, a list of primary and secondary sources, and a list of tables.
