Abstract:

In my doctoral thesis entitled "Experienced and imagined city" I refer to the painting representations of my experiences related to the perception of the city as a cluster of people, as well as observations and reflections that result from being in the space of an urban agglomeration. I explain why my observations of the city are oriented towards industrial areas. In both parts of my doctoral thesis, I try to show the relationship between what is physically tangible and what is tangible only in the emotional sphere. I also try to highlight that these two faces are elements of one whole, like two sides of the same coin. When we hold it in our hand, we always see only one side. In my work, I try to present the image as a reflection of both sides of the coin at the same time. In the first part of the work, I present the terms, ideas and concepts that accompanied me while working on the doctoral series. I refer to my experiences and observations, which developed my sensitivity and conditioned the perception of the city in the context I present in my paintings. In the second part of the work, I refer to artistic practices that were an inspiration and a driving force in my own work. I describe artists who were and are interesting characters for me. They exist in my artistic awareness as artists with a similar attitude and creative sensitivity. In the next part of the work, I describe the course of the series, including the choice of technique, problems and surprises that appeared during the implementation of the work. I describe the ways of painting markings that most fully reflect the ideas that I tried to include in the paintings. In conclusion, I write about the energy release that results from the unity between creation and development, and the need to leave records and reflections, and the resulting creative satisfaction.
W mojej pracy doktorskiej zatytułowanej „Miasto doświadczane i wyobrażane” odnoszę się do malarskich przedstawień moich doświadczeń związanych z postrzeganiem miasta jako skupiska ludzkiego oraz obserwacji i refleksji, jakie wynikają z przebywania w przestrzeni aglomeracji miejskiej. Wyjaśniam, dlaczego moje obserwacje miasta są zorientowane w obszarach industrialnych. W obu częściach pracy doktorskiej staram się pokazać zależność między tym, co dotykalne fizycznie, a tym, co namacalne jest tylko w sferze emocjonalnej. Staram się też naświetli, że te dwa oblicza są elementami jednej całości niczym dwie strony tej samej monety. Trzymając ją w dłoni zawsze widzimy tylko jedną stronę. W swojej pracy próbuję przedstawić obraz jako odbicie jednej i drugiej strony monety jednocześnie. W pierwszej części pracy przedstawiam terminy, idee i koncepcje, jakie towarzyszyły mi podczas pracy nad cyklem doktorskim. Odwołuję się do moich doświadczeń i obserwacji, jakie wykształciły moją wrażliwość i uwarunkowały postrzeganie miasta w takim kontekście, jaki przedstawiam na obrazach. W drugiej części pracy odwołuję się do praktyk artystycznych, które były dla mnie inspiracją i motorem napędowym we własnej twórczości. Opisuję artystów, którzy byli i są dla mnie ciekawymi postaciami. Istnieją oni w mojej świadomości artystycznej, jako twórcy o podobnej postawie i wrażliwości twórczej. W kolejnej części pracy opisuję przebieg realizacji cyklu, w tym wybór techniki, problemy i zaskoczenia, jakie pojawiły się podczas realizacji prac. Opisuję sposoby malarskiego znakowania, najpełniej oddające idee, które starałem się zawrzeć w obrazach. W podsumowaniu piszę o uwolnieniu energetycznym, jakie wynika z jedności między kreacją i rozwojem, a potrzebą pozostawiania po sobie zapisów i odbić oraz wynikającej z tego twórczej satysfakcji.
