TY - GEN A1 - Kularska-Król, Roksana Patrycja N2 - Wielka Bogini to tytuł mojej pracy doktorskiej. Obrazy posiadają formę okrągłą, nawiązującą do mandali. Ci, którzy poruszają bliskie mi tematy związane z kobiecością to m. in. N2 - The Great Goddess is the title of my doctoral work. It consists of 21 paintings - tondas of various diameters - and a written dissertation. This work is the result of my few years’ research on the structure of the archetype of the Great Mother and its impact on human beings today. Fascinated by the theory of matriarchy and the magic of the archetype, I turned to my own inner self and imagination to create a series of works titled The Great Goddess. What is most significant for me here is the attempt to penetrate the mechanism governed by the still unexplored collective unconscious. The very process of painting and research in the field of the depth psychology or anthropology of culture is for me a platform to move to the next level of self-awareness. Each painting is the result of my analysis of the various archetypes of the Great Goddess. I looked for inspiration in mythologies of the world, my own life experience, everyday observations or some random stories I heard. The archetype of the Great Goddess is a structure that is inseparably connected with femininity. This is a very important topic for me and I wanted to address it as part of my doctoral dissertation. However, femininity appears in my works not in the form of nudes that are well known from the history of art, but as a symbolic representation of its various aspects. I look at the world as a woman-artist, a woman-mother, a woman-rebel. In my paintings, I draw attention to stereotypes about femininity, because I want to fight them. The series of works that have been created is a field where the ancient power and courage rooted in reverence to Mother Earth are confronted with the world of today, fed by consumption and aggression, but without respect for nature. As far as the technical aspect of my works is concerned, each of the twenty-one paintings is made up of two layers in such a way that they can be seen both in light and in darkness. For that purpose, I used acrylic paints and luminescent paint, with the intention to intensify viewer’s sense of watching the images of the collective unconscious. The paintings are round, their form being reminiscent of the mandala. They are filled with large surfaces of colours, through which I make an allusion to pop art. Some artists whose works serve as a point of for my work include Niki de Saint Phalle, Fernando Botero and Frida Khalo. Those who touch on femininity-related topics, which I personally find very significant, include Louise Bourgeois, Carolee Schneemann, Cindy Sherman, Guerilla Girls, Teresa Murak, Natalia LL and Ewa Partum. I believe that my doctoral thesis is a voice on women, an attempt to reveal what seems to be hidden, but in fact is deeply rooted in every living being.
