 abstract={The article addresses the problem of the structure and numbers of the Deaf in the Kingdom of Poland in light of the 1897 census. The analysis of such data as geography of settlement, the circumstances of marriage, as well as linguistic and occupational factors, make it possible to understand the social context in which the Deaf functioned on the frontier of the Russian Empire. The use of comparative data from the 1839 and 1921 censuses not only dynamizes the picture, but also empowers us to observe the long-term social processes that the Deaf underwent.},
